POP ART: Cardboard Style

Seattle based artist Micheal Leavitt is making a statement with cardboard. He is using a material as frivolous as cardboard to create life size sculptures of objects that relate directly to sub-cultures of people. I was calling it Pop Art but I think Safe Art may be a better category for it. One could argue the use of the word Art in this equation at all. I mean we all know how large and fanatic the sneaker heads are so by creating cardboard sculptures of some of the most popular models in footwear he is essentially riding the commercial train and exercising his meticulous craft of making these wearable cardboard replicas. cont...

Hip-Hopless

Let's face it, Kanye may have appeared as the marquee guest on Idol this week, but if under very different circumstances he'd entered Simon Cowell's audition room as a no-name nobody and delivered this sort of vocal, the only way he would have ended up on American Idol would've been in a bad-audition blooper-reel montage. cont..

Serious About Style: 88-Keys

Apparently 88-Keys has only worn Ralph Lauren….check out how far this dude will go to keep his style uniquely him, and all other "Lo Heads" beware, yall are fakin'.

Can dudes rock pink?

Used to be, if a dude was going to wear pink, he would try to play it off by calling it “salmon” or “strawberry”. No more. Guys are not only admitting to wearing pink, they’re wearing it hard.

Take our boy Charles Hamilton , famed musician. Here he’s featured wearing a bring, almost hot pink Yankees hat with a, get this, Sonic the Hedgehog shirt. He even got the new Dr. Dre headphones in pink.

This has already taken off, we know, but watch for the pinks to come bolder, more distinct, and in greater numbers.

100th POST!

This marks the 100th post, most of which probably suck, so it is fitting that this post is about something new. The game is always changing, and Alphanumeric has adapted over the years to now bring us a "pop-up shop."

"Alphanumeric has teamed up with retail heavyweight, Norml clothing, in Canada's capital city Ottawa, to bring you, "The Study". The 700 square foot retail space is located on Norml's 2nd floor, adjacent to their art gallery, with a creative and fresh den or study feel. "

Weekend's End, Weeks Begin

There hasn't been much personal commentary on this blog, mostly because I would rather share images, music, and movies. But, as it may be, this is only really read by close friends, or bored internet seekers. Not sure if you guys want to know what I am up to.. but here was a run-down of what I did this weekend..

FRI: After work: Headed to the Ridge of Forests, Chilled for a minute, had a beer at Callis' while he was ellipticalling his way to glory.. Then we headed up to Brother's to meet Richie and the rest of the Friday Brother's Crew.

As always, Richie was sittin' at the end of the bar with shots of Jameson ready to shoot. (Btw, the only reason they have Jameson is because of us on Friday's.) With the shots gone, and people straggling in after thier week, more rounds of Jameson and pitchers of beer insued.

Santos entertained us with his commentary on Forest Gump, and how Jenny pisses him off in a hundred different ways. "Biggie" Balboa joined the crew, fresh from Boulder, CO. Shestak, Charolotte, Dooley, and Lynds rounded out the bunch.

Upstairs eventually opened, and we filed north for conversations with Natalie, our favorite bar tender, games o' pool, outside fire pit pow-wows, and Big Buck Hunter. After much deliberation, and last minute drinks, we managed to talk the gals into goin to Brumley's for a basement rock session. (We did by promising to bring Rock Band 2, so they could play, while we played.)

So we headed west. To the basement that has produced such timeless albums as: "She Won't Go," "Kyle is White," "Lyndseyland" and "Rockin' til' the Cemetary."

Great times, great rhymes.

Dropped ol' Sleepy headed Richie off at the Ridge because he had to play at the bank in the morning, and continued on to Steak N Shake to let the alki soak up. (Chilli Mac to go? Callis.)

Called it a night, Picasso was happy to see us. Lynds and I greeted him on the bed as always, and apparently quickly fell asleep. Because I woke up at 6:30am and we were in all of our clothes sleeping on top of the covers with Cassoman between us... what a Friday.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

SAT: Rolled outta bed around 12:30 to let the dog out. The weather was awesome, 70 at least! Balboa called. He had been rolling around looking for free wifi so he could pre-order Rothbury tickets. All he could find was an AT&T service that charged users. So he swung by to "chill," share some music, and use the internet to order tix.

Upon his departure, I cleaned up, and Lynds & I took Picasso on an "adventure." We found a new trail through Muller Park near the Village. We let Casso off his leash and he romped through the paths, discovering a creek, and proceding to drink and play in it.

After, I joined up with the crew: Shestak, Callis, Richie, Topoll, and Balboa we headed to play a little 3-on-3 at the Millenium Outdoor Courts. (Westsiders proved victorious: Me, Rich, Callis.)

Everyone dispersed. Really the rest of the night was chalked up to Chinese food, NHL 09', a mission to get ice cream resulting in Callis, Lynds, and I buying a pie, 5 different types of ice cream, cones, mountain dew, and downloading and watching Beverly Hills Chihuahua. (Surprisingly entertaining and Enjoyable)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

SUN: Woke up an hour late. Not because I had to go somewhere, but because the time changed. Rolled outta bed, did a little design work, and went shopping with Lynds.

We checked out the new Smith Sport & Shoe on Walnut. The new logo is not so good, I wish I could help them out.. we didn't find anything great, so we left empty handed.

Then we perused Goodwill for "old heavy stuff" and did not find any treasures so continued on to a few other spots in search of storage solutions for our apartment. Took down some measurements for storage, treated Lyndsey to her first BK burger (she usually gets chicken apparently) and picked up a few groceries for Burritos later in the night. By the time we got home it was approaching 6 o'clock.

I sat down at the computer to get in a few more minutes of design work, watched the beginning of the IU game, and got ready for my Basketball Game at the Sportsplex. We killed the other team, although my stats were lackluster to say the least, 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 fouls, and maybe 4 assists in a 85 to 54 effort.

When I got home, Lynds was cookin' up a storm o' burritos as I relaxed on the couch to catch the end of IU's losing effort. Luckily Fantasy Factory soon followed the game to get me back in good spirits, we watched the end of Rock of Love, because the College Humor show blows, and then flipped back to MTV to catch the new Nitro Circus.

Because of the time change we weren't tired, so we watched the new episode of United States of Tara on Showtime. Good stuff. Then bed.

Until next weekend.....

Leave a comment if you thought this was worth reading, because it is way easier just to post photos, music, and video.
